BENGALURU: A woman has been booked on charges of killing her pet dog and keeping the body in her flat at Doddanekkundi, Mahadevapura, for three days. The incident came to light when other occupants of the apartment alerted civic authorities Thursday, saying a foul smell was emanating from the flat.Residents said the occupant, identified as Triparna Paik, wasn’t cooperating with them to find the source of the smell and understand what had happened inside the flat. With the help of local police, a BBMP veterinary doctor entered the flat and found the decomposed body of a black male labrador retriever.A private company employee hailing from West Bengal, Triparna had settled down in Bengaluru for a long time and was living alone in the flat, police said. Based on a complaint filed by Dr Rudresh Kumar KL, cops have booked her under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Police issued her a notice, directing her to appear before them for a statement. The autopsy report of the dog read, “The possible cause of death may be slitting of the neck and fracture of ribs.” Investigation revealed Triparna had wrapped the labrador retriever’s body in cloth and placed it in one of her bedrooms. There were two more dogs in the house, police said. “On receiving the complaint, we reached her flat on June 26, but she refused to allow us inside. With the help of police, we entered the flat and found two dogs in a pathetic condition. On asking about the third one, Triparna said she had left it outside. Knowing she was lying, we searched the room and found the carcass. She killed the dog after subjecting it to cruel treatment,” Kumar’s complaint said, adding, “She obstructed us from carrying out our duty. Also, she threatened to commit suicide if we probed the case.”Police said there were strange rangoli drawings around the labrador retriever’s body. “Triparna claims she tried to bring the dog back to life by performing rituals,” an investigating officer said.
