Sr citizen hit with stick ‘by son’, has leg fracture

Mumbai: A senior citizen has lodged a police complaint against his son, accusing the younger man of assaulting him at his Malad (east) home recently, resulting in a leg fracture. The complaint lodged by Surendra Thakur (60) states that Devendra (34) had assaulted him last year too, and was imprisoned — something that the younger man resented his father for. This is the third recent case from the western suburbs of senior citizens being harassed by their son.The elderly man, a supervisor with an infrastructure firm, lives with his 57-year-old wife. He has told the police that the son is unemployed and is an alcoholic. On Tuesday, the son had taken the father’s motorcycle to go out. His father wanted to go to work and was waiting for him to return the bike. Around 5.30 pm, the son came to the father’s house and rang the doorbell. The elderly man told his wife not to open the safety door, and instead ask what the son needed. The son asked for some tea.The father, however, said that he suspected that his son was drunk and instructed the wife to close the main door. But the son pushed open the safety door and barged into the house. The elderly man rushed to the bedroom, but the son followed him. He asked his father why he had gone to the police last year. He also demanded money, but the father refused to give him any.According to the criminal offence that has been filed, the son pushed the father into the bathroom and hit him on the leg with a wooden stick. The elderly man said he was in pain and pleaded with his son to stop hitting him. He also agreed to transfer money to the son via GPay. The mother intervened, pleading with the son to leave. After the son left, the mother rushed the elderly man to a hospital in Malad. Doctors examined him and said that he had suffered a leg fracture. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint at Dindoshi police station.Last year, in November, the elderly man had lodged a police complaint against the son after the latter had thrown him off the first floor of the building. A criminal offence had been registered against the son back then. The son had been arrested and he spent time behind bars until earlier this year. After he was released from prison, the son came to stay in the same building as his parents, but he stayed on another floor.
