Chinnaswamy stadium stampede: HC grills Karnataka govt; seeks report in sealed cover by Thursday

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Monday posed tough questions to the state government over the recent stampede-like situation at Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, which claimed 11 lives. The court directed that a detailed status report be filed in a sealed cover by Thursday.The suo motu petition was heard by Acting Chief Justice V Kameshwar Rao and Justice C M Joshi. During the hearing, a former Member of the Legislative Council requested to be impleaded in the case. Additionally, a counsel informed the court that he would be filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in connection with the stampede incident.During the proceedings, the court sought clarity on the measures taken for public safety, ticketing protocols, and crowd management during high-profile matches at the stadium.The high court has also granted temporary relief to ticketing partners Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and DNA Networks, who had moved the court following the incident. The high court has adjourned the matter to June 12, when the state government is expected to submit its sealed report outlining findings and corrective steps taken post the stampede.
