Mumbai: A BEST bus rammed into a stationary truck on the Western Express Highway at Goregaon East early on Friday, resulting in the driver, conductor and six passengers getting injured. Vanrai Police, investigating the case, said the driver was speeding. Police have registered an FIR of rash driving against the bus driver. Sources in the BEST department said the bus driver had started the vehicle from Dindoshi to go to Sewree bus station when a car suddenly appeared from the service road and came in front of the bus at Goregaon East. As a result, the bus driver lost control and rammed into a stationary truck parked on the left side around 6.30am. The front side of the bus is badly damaged. However, police officials said the bus driver was speeding while approaching a bus-station in Goregaon East. “A few passengers were standing near the bus exit waiting for their turn to get off. Due to the impact, they fell inside the bus. All the injured persons were rushed to Trauma Care Hospital at Jogeshwari,” the official said.The injured passengers were identified as Ashraf Hussain, 66, Sitaram Gaikwad, 60, Bharti Mandavkar, 56, Sudhakar Rewale, 57, Pochiya Kanpochi, 30, and Amit Yadav, 35. Police said two of the passengers have suffered fractures and have been admitted. “We have taken blood samples of the driver to check for alcohol,” a police officer said. Police did not reveal the identity of the bus driver.
