3 drunk men attack traffic cops during check | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: Three private firm employees have been alleged of manhandling Ashok Nagar traffic police during a drink and drive (DD) check near Konark Hotel at Cash Pharmacy Junction on Residency Road around 1am on June 30. They were found driving under the influence of alcohol.The police stopped a car with five persons in it, including two women. The driver, identified as V Sharan, was subjected to an alcometer test and was found to be drunk. His alcometer reading was 369 mg/100 ml. The police issued him receipts and informed him that they were seizing his car and that he needed to appear before court, pay a fine, and get the car released.According to a complaint filed by sub-inspector Ravi, 57, attached to Ashok Nagar traffic police, Sharan’s friends Varun and Niranjan got into an argument with the police. They started abusing them filthily in front of other motorists. They also falsely accused police of abusing women in the car, incited the women to file a false complaint against the cops, and recorded it on their mobile phones. The police tried to explain to them but they manhandled Ravi. They alerted the police helpline 112. A hoysala team rushed to the spot, yet they didn’t calm down and created ruckus in front of hoysala team too. The trio, Sharan, 24, Varun, 29, and Niranjan, 24, were detained and taken to Ashok Nagar police station.A case was registered against them under BNS sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). They were arrested and released on station bail. Their car was seized by traffic police.
