Polytechnic staffer abandons 15 puppies near Nandi Hills, apologises after rescuers step in | Bengaluru News

Chikkaballapur: A staffer of a private polytechnic in Chikkaballapur abandoned 15 puppies from three different litters, aged between 20 and 25 days, on the roadside Sunday near Nandi Hills.A commuter travelling towards Nandi Hills videographed the security guard of BGS Polytechnic abandoning the puppies that he had transported in a van belonging to the polytechnic. The puppies were seen walking towards the moving car from which the video was shot. A team from Bengaluru, led by Vikash Bafna of Friend for Animals Trust, rescued the pups Monday and returned them to their original location. The team had a tough time rescuing them from the thick bushes of Nandi Hills. The puppies had scaled the high rocks along the side of the road, fearing vehicular movement. “Along with my team of two rescuers, it took me over three hours to rescue the pups,” Bafna said. The staffer admitted he had abandoned the puppies. In a letter bearing the institution’s seal, he wrote the puppies were relocated as they were at risk of being run over by vehicles on the campus. “We gave in writing that we will not repeat this. We will now take care of the puppies,” the letter that was written in Kannada, stated. So far, only 14 puppies have been rescued, including one that was run over by a vehicle minutes after being let out from the college van. It was grievously injured and is undergoing treatment, said the rescue team, adding they continued their search for the last pup Tuesday.Priyam Chhetri, of Bangalore Movement for Strays, said the rescue team decided not to alert police as the polytechnic staffer had apologised and took the puppies back onto the campus. “In case they attempt this again, we will involve law enforcement,” she said.
