India’s first Bullet Train is almost here: Know the routes it will cover, its speed and the official launch date
Indian Railways is all set to change the way Indians will travel in trains in the future! All thanks to the first high-speed bullet train system (the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR). India’s inaugural bullet train project is a result of years of planning, engineering challenges, and construction. But the good news is the train is all set to launch officially in August 2027, a day which is not far from now. As per official statements, the project is designed specifically for Japanese Shinkansen trains, ensuring technology compatibility and reliability. Connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad under three hoursIt is one of the most ambitious projects which will connect Mumbai in Maharashtra and Ahmedabad in Gujarat in under three hours. The bullet train project is among the most ambitious railway endeavours till date. Stretching over 508 kilometres, this corridor will connect India’s financial capital, Mumbai, with the economic powerhouse of Ahmedabad. The train is designed to meet international high-speed rail standards. It will cross a series of tunnels along with a 21-kilometre underground tunnel. The bullet train corridor is being developed in collaboration with Japan. Initial services will use Shinkansen E5 series trains capable of running at high speeds. The operational speed of the bullet trains on this corridor will be up to 320 km/hr. The train will reduce journey times significantly. Passengers will be able to travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in under three hours, compared to the current rail travel time of 7–8 hours. Official launch dateIn a recent update from the Ministry of Railways and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the official launch date of the train is August 15, 2027. On this day, when the country will celebrate its Independence Day, the first bullet train service will run on a 100-km stretch between Surat and Vapi, as per official announcement. Stations

This corridor will have 12 stations:In Maharashtra: Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Thane, Virar, BoisarIn Gujarat: Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and SabarmatiAs per official statements, bullet trains will run every 15–20 minutes. Bullet trains are believed to boost regional economies by reducing travel time.
