Running is increasingly becoming a social activity in Bengaluru, with many enjoying runversations (conversations while running) and being part of a community of runners who support each other. BHUKMP is one of the long-distance running groups in the city, fostering camaraderie and community bonds through shared training and participation in marathons.The runs are often followed by breakfast together. “Breakfast is also an opportunity to celebrate personal milestones. Two days ago, we met at a microbrewery for lunch,” says Milind Chalisgaonkar, 60, adding the name of the group is derived from marathon events – Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ultra, Kaveri Trail, Mumbai, and Puducherry.Members join for a two-and-a-half-hour-long run on Saturday mornings, starting and ending at Cubbon Park. Milind says Saturday’s run is called ‘Dandi’ because people can keep joining at different places.Communication and coordination are mostly on WhatsApp. The group discusses a variety of topics. REDISCOVERING KUVEMPU: The legendary writer continues to amaze new age readers

On Dec 29, the poet laureate’s 122nd birth anniversary was celebrated as Vishwamanava Day. Beetle Book Shop in Vijaynagar, Bengaluru, organised a special lecture and the launch of the second edition of Hosa Odugarige Kuvempu (Kuvempu for New Age readers), a collection of essays on Kuvempu’s writings and speeches by KV Narayana. Writer and translator Vanamala Viswanath, who translated Kuvempu’s Malegalalli Madumagalu to English as Bride in the Hills, shared her insights on Hosa Odugarige Kuvempu. Linguist-critic KV Narayana delivered a special lecture on Kuvempu’s play Bommanahalliya Kindarijogi.
