Bengaluru traffic: 750 metres in 21 minutes! Another viral video exposes Bengaluru’s traffic nightmare |
Bengaluru might be India’s silicon heart but the fact can’t be denied that it is also one of the worst-hit-by-traffic cities in the country! There are already myriad stories, videos and social media posts which talk about traffic woes of Bengaluru. But looks like all the limits crossed when a woman shared a video which showed she covered a mere distance of 750 metres in 21 minutes! There is no denying that Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, is among the fastest-growing cities in the country. Today, once again under the spotlight, sadly not for a tech breakthrough, but for far more mundane yet painfully relatable: traffic! The viral video Recently, a Bengaluru resident shared a short video on her Instagram handle which went viral in no time. The video showed the woman car’s navigation screen indicating that a distance of just 750 metres would take 21 minutes to reach the destination which is completely outrageous. She wrote: “Just Bengaluru things”. It quickly went viral as for sure a number of people could connect with it. The video struck a chord with commuters and highlighted the reality of traffic in Bengaluru. The video, recorded from inside the woman’s vehicle, shows Google Maps’ navigation interface lit up with red and yellow traffic indicators. These are signs of slow-moving vehicles and traffic. What should have been a matter of 5 minutes turned into a 21-minute drive testing patience and underscoring a reality of Bengaluru. Frustration The video was soon shared across social media. And reactions started coming in. A number of users showed empathy with the woman and shared their own experiences of having faced similar traffic. And that too on a regular basis. Some also joked around it and that walking would have been faster! Some also tried to reason by mentioning that weekend nights and festive seasons are the worst time to be on Bengaluru roads. What surveys say

But sadly, this is not the first time. Reports and discussions across platforms reveal that Bengaluru’s traffic woes are long-standing and complex. Commuters regularly spend excessive time on the roads, not just during peak office hours but also in other parts of the day, with average travel speeds significantly lower than in many other Indian cities. A number of global surveys have placed Bengaluru among the cities with some of the worst traffic congestion. Prime causes

Some of the main causes behind this condition are attributed to:Rapid Urban GrowthInadequate InfrastructurePublic Transport ConstraintsImproper parking, among other factorsThis video may seem amusing at first—but it’s a stark reminder of the daily struggle and realities that millions of residents in Bengaluru face on a regular basis. But such stories are likely to remain far from rare.
