Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has arrived in the United States following his dramatic capture by U.S. forces in Caracas. Late Saturday evening, Maduro was flown into a National Guard military base in New York State, where FBI agents surrounded him as he stepped off a U.S. government aircraft and was escorted across the tarmac under heavy security. From there, the 63-year-old leader was transferred by helicopter to Manhattan, where a large law enforcement presence was already in place. According to U.S. media reports, Maduro was first taken to the offices of the Drug Enforcement Administration before being moved to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn — the same federal jail that held rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs during his trial last year. Maduro and his wife are expected to be arraigned before a judge in New York at a later date. They face serious charges, including narco-terrorism, importing tons of cocaine into the United States, and possession of illegal weapons.
