Well acconding to Anurag Kashyap, when he asked his team to research what led to the debacle of Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Bombay Velvet,’ they cited the actor’s hair as the reason for the movie’s failure!
Anurag Kashyap revisits ‘Bombay Velvet’ and speaks on the failure
Anurag Kashyap has given several critically acclaimed movies in his career and has faced his fair share of criticism as well. When ‘Bombay Velvet’ came out, it promised the world to the audience and couldn’t deliver it at all. Anurag thus asked his studio team to research what went wrong. Speaking to Screen, the filmmaker shared what his team told her, which is sure to leave everyone stunned.“The debacle of the film was such that when they did the research, the shocking thing was, people didn’t like Ranbir’s hair. They said that audiences got upset with Ranbir’s hair because he had curled it up. And it was a choice that we all made; we designed it like that. And when I heard this, I was like, that’s the most absurd reason I can hear,” he said before adding, “One can say, ‘Oh, the film didn’t work for me,’ but coming up and saying hair didn’t work, and because of that it didn’t get an opening, and people didn’t go to see the film because they were put off by the hair, was absurd.“
Ranbir Kapoor doesn’t like to talk about ‘Bombay Velvet’
In the same conversation, he unveiled that Ranbir Kapoor doesn’t like speaking about ‘Bombay Velvet.’ He shared, “I think Ranbir was very upset about that, and he keeps saying, ‘Why do you keep talking about Bombay Velvet? Just ignore it. The film didn’t work, it didn’t work, but you don’t have to talk about it all the time.’ But people ask me questions all the time, how can I just ignore that?”

Released in 2015, ‘Bombay Velvet’ starred Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the lead. Karan Johar was seen playing the antagonist in the film. According to Sacnilk, the film was made on a budget of Rs 115 crore, and its overall business was Rs 43.20 crore.
