Creator of fake video using President, PM voice arrested in Muzaffarpur; was part of Jan Suraaj Party social media team | India News
NEW DELHI: The Bihar police on Friday arrested a person from Muzaffarpur for allegedly creating an Artificial Intelligence-generated, fake but viral video mimicking the voice of the President of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi “to spread misinformation among the public with an intent to undermine high Constitutional offices, shake public confidence in democratic institutions and disturb social harmony and public order”.The accused, Pramod Kumar Raj, was arrested by a special team led by superintendent of police (cyber), which also seized his mobile used to created the fake video. “The mobile is being examined for further evidence,” the Muzaffarpur police said in a statement on Friday.Sources said Pramod has been working for social media cell of Jan Suraaj Party led by Prashant Kishor. He had managed social media publicity for the party during the Bihar assembly elections held last year.Some photographs of Pramod posing with Prashant Kishor surfaced on social media on Friday.The Muzaffarpur police, in its statement on the arrest, said: “The possibility of the AI-generated, fake digital content being created and circulated for anti-national purposes, spreading rumours and disruptng social harmony cannot be ruled out”.Keeping in view the sensitive nature of the case, a special team was set up under the supervision of of senior superintendent of police (SSP), Muzaffarpur, with by superintendent of police (SP), cyber, in the lead. The team, based on technical evidence, promptly arrested the accused along with the mobile used by him to create the video edit.“Further investigation in the case is underway,” according to the police statement.
