Sexual harassment case: Charges against former minister HD Revanna dropped | Bengaluru News
BENGALURU: A special court for elected representatives in the city Monday dropped from sexual harassment charges against former minister and MLA from Holenarasipur, HD Revanna. The allegations were levelled by a woman working at his farmhouse in Gannikada, Hassan district. The case was lodged in early 2024 with Holenarasipur Town police. Revanna’s son Prajwal is charged with rape in the same case and trial is yet to start. The woman claimed Revanna had sexually harassed her between 2019 and 2022.
“This is not a fit case to condone the delay in lodging complaint or initiation of proceedings in respect of an offence punishable under Section 354A (sexual harassment) of IPC against Revanna. Accordingly, this court has declined to take cognisance of the offence against him. As such, the accused is discharged from the offence alleged under Section 354A of IPC,” the special judge observed.Revanna had been charged with two sections — IPC 354 (Outraging the modesty of a woman) and 354A (sexual harassment). The high court had quashed IPC 354 and directed the special court to examine the charges framed under 354A.
