Bengaluru: A 30-year-old software professional searching for a partner through a dating app was allegedly duped and assaulted in a two-stage honeytrap incident in RR Nagar recently.Based on the complaint filed by Sam (name changed), police arrested Sumalata alias Anjali, 28; Harshini alias Sweety, 26; and their associates Jagadish alias Jagga, 35; Manju alias Manjunath, 30; and Lokesh Kumar, 32, residents of RR Nagar and Annapoorneshwarinagar. They were remanded to judicial custody at Bengaluru central prison.According to Sam, he first met Sumalata through ‘Fun with Benefits Escort Group’ on the Telegram app on Dec 1. “I was invited to her Annapoorneshwarinagar home on the night of Dec 10. When I was inside, she grabbed Rs 20,000 in cash and my mobile and demanded Rs 1 lakh. Also, she threatened to call her associates and beat me up. I grabbed my phone and ran away,” said Sam in his complaint.Meanwhile, on Dec 20 morning, Sam received a message on Telegram from ‘Sweety’, saying she was ready to meet him. Accordingly, Sam went to RR Nagar around 1.45pm to meet her. Little did Sam know that Sweety was Sumalata’s friend.“I was walking near a temple in RR Nagar when five persons, including two women (one of them Sumalata), blocked me and snatched Rs 20,000 I was carrying. They beat me up and demanded Rs 1 lakh. I shouted, and passersby called the police control room,” read the complaint.As a patrolling Hoysala police vehicle reached the spot, all five ran away. “Based on the complaint filed by the victim, we traced and arrested the accused persons,” an investigating officer said.
