Basil seeds (also called sabja seeds),” the doctor said. A recent study published in Food Chemistry Advances found that basil seeds contain 43.9% carbohydrates, of which 36.3% is fiber, 33% lipids, of which 71% is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), and, 9.4% protein.

Why basil seeds work?

Basil seeds are a nutritional powerhouse. They good source of fiber, lipids, antioxidants, and a plant-based source of protein.So, what makes basil seeds effective in stopping blood sugar spikes? “They expand even faster than chia seeds and have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years to fix digestive problems. Studies show basil seeds help manage blood sugar better than many other seeds. When your blood sugar stays stable, you don’t get those energy crashes that make you crave junk food,” the doctor said. According to Dr Sethi, these seeds form a gel upon soaking and slow sugar absorption. This keeps one feeling full for longer periods of time. It also feeds your good gut bacteria and helps prevent blood sugar spikes after meals. “When you eat basil seeds before or with meals, they create a protective gel in your stomach. This slows down how fast sugar enters your bloodstream and keeps your energy steady all day. Try them this week and feel the difference,” the doctor said. A 2021 study published in the journal Foods, basil extracts lower blood sugar. They also have bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antiulcer, antidiarrheal, and chemopreventive effects.
