Bengaluru West & Central corporations to shut parks and lakes after 6pm on New Year’s Eve | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: To prevent potential overcrowding during the New Year celebrations, Bengaluru West and Central city corporations will restrict public entry to parks and lakes in their jurisdiction after 6pm on Dec 31.This is a precautionary measure to ensure public safety and maintain order. The civic authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with the restrictions and celebrate the New Year responsibly. Daljit Kumar, additional commissioner (development) of West corporation, said large gatherings on NYE could lead to untoward incidents and disturbance of public peace. Instructions have been issued to install signboards at all parks and lakes informing the public about the restriction, and police will help in effective enforcement of this order. However, Bengaluru South city corporation has taken a different stance. Commissioner Ramesh KN told TOI there is currently no plan to shut parks and lakes early. “We do not see the need to close parks and lakes at 6pm at this point. However, if we receive directions from police, we may consider such a decision.” East corporation is yet to announce a decision on the matter, while North corporation confirmed it has no closure plans.
