The moment of the attack near the libraryAccording to Imran, who was walking alongside Ali, one assailant issued a threat moments before the shooting. He said the attacker told him, “You don’t know me yet, now you will,” Imran told police officers during questioning, quoted by local officials. Ali was shot at close range near the ear and collapsed on the spot.The incident occurred near the canteen behind the Maulana Azad Library at around 8.50 pm. The attackers arrived on a two-wheeler and fled straight after the gunfire. Police barricaded the area and examined the crime scene soon after.Police response and investigationSenior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said the victim was rushed to hospital but could not be saved. “Two unidentified persons shot Danish, and he was declared dead at the hospital,” Jadaun told journalists in conversation with local media. His father, Professor Hilal, and his mother are both retired AMU staff members. His father-in-law, Fiza Ullah Chaudhary, was a former MLA from the Kanth constituency in Moradabad.A relative, Mohammad Waseem Ali, said Danish collapsed immediately after being shot and was rushed to hospital, a statement he shared with reporters at the medical college.
