Bengaluru: A complaint was registered over derogatory and caste-based remarks on former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and his family members during a telephonic conversation, with the audio clip uploaded on social media.According to the complaint filed by JD(S) legal unit president Pradeep Kumar SP with Banashankari police Wednesday, the duo — Prasanna Kumar and Manjunath – questioned Gowda’s caste identity, making statements that demeaned both him personally and the Vokkaliga community. The conversation reportedly included remarks about Gowda’s lineage, his family members, and references to specific communities and sub-sects, the JD(S) functionary claimed.The remarks were intended to provoke and create discord among different castes, he claimed and added that the accused attempted to pit one community against another by making inflammatory statements, thereby promoting hatred, intolerance, and animosity between social groups. He also stated that the conversation was deliberately circulated and promoted on social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and YouTube.A senior police officer said a case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 196 (1) – (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony), and the investigation is in progress.
