Ed Sheeran opens up about his 14 kg weight loss transformation, reveals what marked the turning point for him

Ed Sheeran’s vocals have always been celebrated, but now his global fanbase is leaning towards his visible weight loss transformation. Now, the leaner and fitter Sheeran has finally spoken about his 14 kg weight loss journey. The singer has appeared in the January 2026 issue of Men’s Health UK and shared what has been inspiring to focus on his fitness.

When Ed realised it

Ed Sheeran shared how he felt frustrated about his health when he was in his 20s. He shared, “I would say I lived a pretty unhealthy life from 20 to 30. And even though I was doing professionally well, I wouldn’t say that reflected well into my personal life.‘And I do think that wellness is a direct mirror to mental health and the way you feel. I always felt like s*** within myself; I’d wake up and look in the mirror and just feel gross.

What pushed Ed Sheeran towards fitness

A hint of low-self esteem about his body slightly pushed him, but there was something else that accelerated his efforts. The 34-year-old singer shared that becoming a dad was something that pushed him. He added, “”I didn’t want to pick my kid up and have my back messed up and stuff like that.”He also added to “feel superhuman on stage” and remembered how a muscle in his back got pulled while playing live.

Sheeran’s fitness routine

Ed Sheeran’s transformation was also the result of his consistent routine for the past 5 years. To lose 14 kgs, he did weight training, pilates, and running. During the pandemic, he started lifting weights. Sheeran shared that he enlisted the help of personal trainer Ali Thomas and began doing Zoom sessions alongside his wife, Seaborn, who used to be a professional hockey player.

Sheeran levelled up in 2025

In the beginning of 2025, Ed Sheeran started working with Personal trainer Matt Kendrick. Ed wanted to have a PT who could travel with him and help him optimize with training “to the next level.” Sheeran said bench press and deadlift were the last thing he wanted to do after a show. This is when Sheeran was introduced to pilates. Sheeran described reformer Pilates as a “gentle introduction” to fitness. The English singer finally adds, “I’m not saying I’m done with enjoying myself. I still drink. I love red wine, I love a nice meal, but it’s not every day.”
