Rs 1,455 for 140 km! Special train fares leaves Mysuru commuters shocked | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: Regular commuters on the Tuticorin–Mysuru Special train (06284) are criticising high ticket prices between Bengaluru and Mysuru. The Railways is charging Rs 1,455 for AC 2-Tier (2A) and Rs 1,060 for AC 3-Tier (3A) even for travel between Bengaluru and Mysuru, a journey of about 140km that takes roughly two hours and 25 minutes. Passengers have pointed out that the fares are significantly higher than those on regular trains operating on the same route, making the service unaffordable for frequent travellers.
The South Western Railway (SWR), however, has defended the pricing, stating that special trains operate under a different fare structure. A senior SWR official said that such on-demand services are primarily meant for long-distance passengers and carry a minimum fare applicable for 500km. “Even if commuters book tickets for shorter distances, the minimum fare is charged. This is standard practice for special trains operated during the festive season,” the official said.
