Special court rejects pre-arrest bail plea of MLA Basavaraj in murder case | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru:A special court for elected representatives in city Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail petition of BJP MLA from Bengaluru’s KR Pura, BA Basavaraj, in the Biklu Shiva murder case, in which the legislator is arraigned as accused number five.Basavaraj’s counsel had applied for the MLA’s anticipatory bail Saturday, but the special judge, Santosh Gajanan Bhat, adjourned the matter to Monday.Basavaraj’s counsel made a futile attempt to secure interim bail for two days. Special public prosecutor Ashok Naik Monday requested the court to adjourn the matter by one more day since the CID filed its preliminary chargesheet that day.In its preliminary chargesheet in the murder of Biklu Shiva, who was hacked to death in Bharatinagar on the night of June 15, the CID has named 18 persons, leaving out the names of MLA BA Basavaraj and an advocate. The special public prosecutor objected to pre-arrest bail for the BJP MLA Tuesday, saying that Basavaraj had absconded and had not cooperated with the police in the investigation. “He (Basavaraj) has not properly attended the assembly sessions held at Belagavi. His counsel claims that Basavaraj is a law-abiding man; if he really were, he would have appeared before the investigating agency rather than abscond. Also, his role as a conspirator should be checked thoroughly,” Naik argued.
