Artificial intelligence & 20,000 cops to police New Year revelry in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: As it gears up to ring in the New Year, the city will come under an unprecedented security blanket on the night of Dec 31, with at least 20,000 police personnel deployed across key stretches, party hubs, and residential areas to ensure celebrations remain safe and incident-free. Unlike previous years, cops will carry out surveillance using AI technology while analysing footage from CCTV cameras.Police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said special measures have been put in place to enhance the safety of people, particularly women travelling in app-based cabs and autos. An emergency button has been integrated into ride-booking apps, enabling users to seek immediate police assistance. “In case of an emergency, travellers can open the app and press ‘contact 112′ option. Our staff at the command centre will connect with the caller and rush patrolling vehicles to the spot,” he said.Commuters can also download the Karnataka State Police (KSP) app and use the Safe Connect feature to reach the police directly. “Safe Connect allows users to communicate with our command centre through a live video call, helping us understand and respond to the situation more effectively,” Singh explained. In a bid to encourage citizens to celebrate responsibly, the commissioner said an online campaign will be launched on Dec 22. (With inputs from Shriya S)
