Bengaluru techie set to conquer South America’s highest peak | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: Aritra Roy, a tech professional and mountaineer based in Bengaluru, is set to attempt a solo climb of Mount Aconcagua, which stands at 6,962 metres and is the tallest peak outside of Asia. His expedition, supported by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) as part of its 86th Foundation Day celebrations, was officially launched Sunday.Aconcagua, one of the Seven Summits, has a success rate of only 30% due to its harsh weather conditions. Roy, originally from Tripura, has previously scaled the Everest, Kilimanjaro, and Elbrus. “These experiences have prepared me both mentally and physically for Aconcagua. I hope to carry the national flag to the top of the southern hemisphere,” he stated, expressing his ambition to complete all Seven Summits by 2026. The estimated cost of the climb is Rs 7-8 lakh.HAL chairman and MD DK Sunil said the support for Roy’s climb reflects the organisation’s values. “HAL has always stood for courage, excellence, and pushing boundaries. Such expeditions send a strong message about resilience and self-belief,” he said.The flag-off event coincided with HAL’s fitness-themed Foundation Day, which included a Fit India walkathon attended by 1,000 employees and schoolchildren. HAL also honoured cricketer Shreyanka Patil and announced plans for year-round fitness initiatives, including a full-scale marathon next year.Roy trained at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling and aspires to join the elite group of climbers who have successfully scaled all Seven Summits.
