More trouble for Shilpa Shetty: I-T raids actor’s popular Bastian pub in Bengaluru | Bengaluru News
BENGALURU: The Income Tax (IT) department conducted a raid on Wednesday at Bastian Pub, a popular nightlife spot owned by Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.Income Tax officials were spotted at the pub premises carrying out the operation.The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has invoked the more serious charge of cheating under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code in an FIR against actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra and her businessman husband Raj Kundra. Police said this action follows fresh evidence gathered during the ongoing investigation.
Earlier in August, the EOW had registered a case against the couple under Sections 403 and 406 of the IPC for dishonest misappropriation of property and criminal breach of trust.According to the FIR, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra allegedly cheated Mumbai-based businessman Deepak Kothari of Rs 60.48 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal linked to their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.The couple approached the Bombay High Court seeking to quash the FIR, describing it as “baseless and malicious.” They maintained that the matter was a civil dispute arising from a failed business venture, not a criminal offence. The EOW continues to investigate the case.
