Bengaluru: Two policemen attached to Bellandur police station have been suspended after they were accused of demanding and accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe from a former corporate executive who had lost his daughter last month.The suspended are police sub-inspector Santosh Kumar and head constable Ghorakhnath P. Their suspensions, which were ordered by city police commissoner Seemanth Kumar Singh on Thursday, comes in the backdrop of a social media outrage, following a post by former BPCL CFO Sivakumar K, describing the ordeals and harassment faced by him post his daughter’s untimely demise.Sivakumar had alleged on social media that the officers sought the bribe while handing over his late daughter’s autopsy report. Sivakumar also accused GBA officials and ambulance staff of similar misconduct after his daughter’s death in a hospital. Sivakumar, in a post titled ‘I paid them all’, said: “Recently, my only child passed away at age 34. The amount of open bribes being asked by the ambulance, police for FIR and post-mortem report, crematorium for giving receipt, and BBMP office for the death certificate. I paid.”Speaking to TOI, Seemanth Kumar Singh said he spoke to Sivakumar and decided to suspend the accused police officials. “We will carry out a departmental inquiry,” he said.The trouble began in Sept when Sivakumar’s 34-year-old daughter was shifted to a hospital after she fell near the bathroom. A senior police officer said: “She died in the hospital later. As a legal procedure, doctors informed the jurisdictional Bellandur police of the death. On arriving, the inspector questioned Sivakumar, asking him how a natural fall inside the house ended in death and said an autopsy would reveal the truth. However, the inspector spoke roughly when someone questioned the need for an autopsy. In this case, no FIR has been registered. It is a case of unnatural death report.” Asked why the PSI and the constable took Rs 5,000 from Sivakumar, he said, “Kumar and Ghorakhnath claim they took Rs 5,000 to pay Rs 3,000 to the ambulance driver and Rs 2,000 to the man who assists doctors during the post-mortem. However, their claims have to be verified,” he said.
