Drunk techie held for vandalising idol in building in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 27-year-old software engineer was arrested for allegedly vandalising an idol of Lord Ganesha located on the premises of a commercial building at Garvebhavipalya on Hosur Road.The accused, Shiva Kumar, was drunk, police said. He was passing by the building around 11.30pm Saturday and noticed the two-foot-tall stone idol. He spoke to it for almost 20 minutes and later pushed it with his hands, damaging it, cops said. The owner of Sulochana Doreswami multi-storey commercial building had installed the idol on the ground floor. According to the complaint filed by building in-charge Deepak, 24, his employer called him around 8am on Aug 24 to say the accused was vandalising the stone idol.Deepak rushed to the building and found the idol on the floor, with its hand and head damaged. CCTV cameras in surrounding buildings and a nearby bank showed Shiva vandalising the idol.Shiva was arrested under BNS Sections 298 (injuring or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 324 (mischief).
